One of the most popular types of science fiction novels is dystopian literature. These books are set in the future in a society that is supposed to be more "perfect" than our world today, but ultimately has flaws.

If I could have a perfect world I would really make a lot of changes. First we would get rid of poverty and every person that is poor could have a free daily 3 meals for work. For school you would choose your classes based on what you want your job to be. There still would be like upper and lower class but mostly every one would have the same rights. We would still use tech but not to the point where we never talk. Every 2 weeks we would go a day without tech so people would really talk and not be zoned off from the world.

I really like the idea of not using technology as much. It shows that we should not use as much technology as we are using now and it establishes boundaries. One thing I dislike is that you said kids could be able to pick their classes based on their future job but what if our future job doesn't require any classes. If kids believed that then they would think what would be the point of coming to school.

Hey Timmy, when you say we should use technology less, do you mean our devices, or technology like 3-D printers or automobiles. If you mean devices, then what do you think our main alternative for spending our free time. When you say children go to school to learn what they will actually do in the future, once a student picks their occupation, then changes their mind too late in their school life, will there be more school controversy than now?

I really like your idea of the perfect world. I like how you would have a day without technology but instead of having it every 2 weeks I would much rather have it once a week so there is a shorter time distance between the two and it would make people more used to not being on their electronics and could make them more social and healthy.

I think your idea is good but what happens if you wanted to change your job. Many people change their dreams as they grow up so what will they do? If they start to study something then move to another subject they wouldn't know whats going on and they would take a big step back from where they were. And I like your idea to take a break from technology but not how will you get people to stop doing it?

I really like your "perfect" world. I agree with the idea of getting rid of poverty because I hate seeing people on the streets lurking for money and food.... it's just sad. I don't really agree with the choosing your classes based on what you want to be when you get older because what if kids don't really know what they wanna be yet? I also agree with the day of no technology because it would give people time to connect with others, but what if people have really important jobs and they need their phones and computers?

I like your ideas of a perfect world and think it would do well. A problem with your world I saw was how would we have enough food for the homeless people and people in poverty and how would we pay for it. I really liked the idea of having a day of no technology but I think there would have to be some exceptions like hospitals and emergency hotlines which use technology and phones. Overall I really enjoyed your perfect world and liked it.

I enjoy your idea of a perfect world, and the fact no poverty is there. But what about the people who get the food, and that no one else gets it? Rich people or other idiots could get jelous and protest, causing violence. Who would raise the crops? Who would be put through all this backbreaking labor because everyone would have free food? Then, the point of them doing something that is like torture, while the others live in this "perfect" utopia, while the workers are just killing themselves. If no one, which probably could happen, volunteered, there is two choices. One, people are forced to work there, like "today is your day to be a slave by genetically modifying chickens." Two, everyone starves, unless the rich people start buying food on a black market. But, apart from this, I enjoy your perfect world, and think that this could be special compared to others.

Great utopia Anthony. I agree that every person should get three meals everyday because many people don't even get one meal a day. I think that you should learn about what you need to know in the future but, if students wanted to be something in kinder garden then changed their mind in fifth grade; what would they do then? Tech is a huge part of our life and I think it's amazing that we should go tech free every two weeks but would that just be a school wide event? or would it be the city of even the world?

In my mind, the perfect world would have to change this society- a lot. Obviously a "perfect world" would be much different that our society, we need to change schools, jobs and laws. First of all, school would need to change by having students learn on there own level along with other students on the same level with them, the flaws of this are that some students won't interact with each other but just with the other people in their group. Jobs would also have to change by having better working envierment and have citizens have the job they want, the flaw in this is that some jobs will have more workers than others. Laws would have to be more strict and we would need to have more people to fight crime.

I see what your saying. Our current system is deeply flawed. But we have so many rules and regulations that restrict us to a certain way so as to avoid a potentially far worse outcome. Personally, I think we just need to simplify the whole process and the pre-existing issues.

My perfect world would look like a regular world but has a different appearance because it would be a world where the government was run by older people like in there 20’s but the rest of the world would be under the same government because it would be difficult to be run by other rulers. Also my world would be a world without deadly diseases like cancer the zika virus and my world will not have drugs but we will still have technology. Another reason why my world will be perfect is because everyone will have their own teacher so that no one will have to worry about a child interrupting class.

I like the idea about the government but the one teacher one kid thing not so much (no offense). I think if every kid had their own teacher the kid would feel kind of uncomfortable. I already feel uncomfortable around my teachers even with a full classroom of kids. For example, when I have a question to ask my teachers I get shy and nervous. I also think that it would make it hard to get to know other people because you only get 30 mins of lunch and recess. So you wouldn't make that many friends or maybe make any friends at all.

I agree with nyasia on this. I wouldn't want to have just one teacher for one student that would be really scary and uncomfortable. I mean if we did just have one teacher for one student they would go a little slower but I think it would be harder to learn because you would be forced on one thing then when you have to transfer to the next subject it would be harder.

People in their twenties, while knowledgeable, should not be the only ones in charge. Most people today meet our current standards for say supreme judge by thirty, then they have to get the job which could take a decade. Their is no real reason not to have young people take charge, in fact the world would most likely improve. But the aged would then have no use, and like it or not, we would all get that old sometime.

About your government, I don't think it should just be young people running it but also old and more experience running the government. Also I think that children should be in a classroom with other kids to help them better socialize and a better learning environment.

Your idea of tutors are good but how will the kids socialize? And same with the government some twenty-year olds are not that smart. Like some twenty-year olds party hard, drink, and smoke so they will be not be very suitable for being in charge. They could also be easily persuaded with many things. But even so the idea with no diseases like cancer is wonderful so people don't have to die.

I try most the time not to imagine a perfect world. For the most part I find that a world where I'm on top and everything is perfect tends just bring me down when I come back to reality or I nitpick until it's foolish for me try again. My imagined future, it's the apocalypse and I'm the only one who survived and I imagine how to get by in the school building. What I would do all day, etc. I would sleep in the nurses office. I would eat in the kitchen for a while, assuming electricity would continue for a bit. I would have a lot of devices. I have a great opportunity, eventually I would gather up a enough stuff from a nearby backpack ( I'm in school so I imagine I'll find a couple ) and I would eventually make it outside and go to my house and live in the outside world, post apocalypse. Of course in that scenario there are many flaws. The main one being I am the only person left. But solitude is my poison of choice.

Many people think the world could change in lots of ways such as government, school, or laws. If I could only change one thing, just one thing I would ban guns. Many people would say people kill people not guns, but that is far from the truth. Yes, people use a gun to kill someone, but a gun was made for one purpose and one purpose only and it is to kill something. If we did ban guns the homicide rate would drop incredibly. Someone might say well I need a gun for self defense, but if we banned them no one would have a gun to kill someone.

I understand what you're trying to say, and I think it's a good idea. But there are way too many alternatives for guns like knives and machetes. Would police officers be allowed to possess guns? If not, than a criminal could almost easily go on a rampage without being stopped easily.

If I were to change it the world to a perfect place we would capture Isis. I would lower the relentless shooting by double checking everyone over the age of 25 has background check for their guns . Also having no conceal and carries. For each big city there would be required to have 75 police cars on the streets of that city. Each citizen of the United States of America would have a background check every five years. The people on the pathway to citizenship would have a three year pathway instead of a 7 year process. We would have peace in our country. For education their would be no more common core and everyone would be at the same grade level their would be no accelerated anything. Everyone would be in the same grade and the same level. As a community we would pay little tax rates. There would be 2% sales tax on everything you purchase.

My idea of a "perfect" world? Well, I would get rid of the law that people are allowed to carry guns, even with a license unless your a police because less people will lose their lives. A negative thing about getting rid of this law is that people won't really be able to protect them self's from bad people or robbers. For education I think students should be required to bring an electronic to school only for school purposes though just to make school a little more interesting. I would provide more heat in schools because our school is really cold in the winter. A negative thing about having electronics in school is that they can distract students and they would probably be less focused.

To me I wouldn't want to live in a perfect world. It would be too boring and will feel uncomfortable. If we live in a perfect world we all would be perfect. Imagine yourself perfect; yeah it would solve a lot of problems but it also gives you nothing to do. If your perfect in every subject, perfect on every art project, perfect on every gym unit you play, you won't have to worry about anything. Today, life is about worrying. It would be too much of a change. Whether it's applying for a job or presenting in front of class; without these things we won't have to worry. Without worrying over stuff like that; life would be boring. That is why I wouldn't want to live in a perfect world.

My ideal utopia would not have many changes as our society is already idealized from other times and places. For one I would like to point out that no one is perfect, nothing we make can be perfect either, so if we make artificial intelligence to do something ‘better’ that a human could it would still have flaws of its’ own. Maybe it does its’ job better than we could but it won’t do it perfect. I have no idea in my mind as to what I would like our society change, because I haven’t had enough experience in my lifetime so far to decide what would be ‘better’ or ‘worse’. Someone’s idea of a ‘good’ society could be very destructive and cause wars but it could be their idea of a ‘utopia’. Our society is already very good in my opinion, but I have nothing to compare it to so I may have no idea of what someone else’s ‘utopia’ or ‘dystopia’ may be. But I like ours now.

My close to "perfect" world for me is that we don't have any wars or violence affecting peoples lives. This would make a big deal for all of us, people won't die and their love ones can be safe. We should compromise on things like land. We could rock, paper, scissors for it or something else that would make it fair and square so people can't be angry with it and they can could just laugh it off. This civilization should be smart with their actions not just littering here and there and finding a more efficient way of power like renewable sources so we don't pollute the earth. This civilization's education should be little more free letting kids learn at their own paces. For example if a child is a slow learner he/she should be placed in a classroom with other slow learners so he/she shouldn't feel out of place or any discomfort then it wouldn't be a proper learning experience. It doesn't matter what age they are only the how much he/she have learned in their brain they shouldn't have test that place them in a special area they should be able to choose for themselves. If they are more comfortable learning with the way they are then good but if they excel in which they are in they should be encouraged to move up instead without consulting them and just putting them into a non-comfortable work zone for themselves then they wouldn't learn good. This civilizations government should be a lot more efficient with their money. When they make choices the citizens should be able to vote for it with a good explanation like how they vote for the next president it should be as important. The civilizations community should help one another make it a friendly environment for everyone. If someone needs someone to talk to they should feel comfortable if they need their communities support and their community will be able to help them depending on the situation. People need to feel comfortable with each other no matter their race or what they look like it just matters what kind of person they are. This would almost be my "perfect world" I probably will think of more ways to make it better for now this will kind of make my so called "perfect world".

Everyone would have shelter and food to eat. People wouldn't have guns unless you're in the army. All the really bad people in the world would be in a jail so that they would never let them out so they can't harm us. Our government would be split with democrats and republicans so they can have multiple ideas. The bad part of this is that there wouldn't be anything bad in the world and there wouldn't be anything the change or help. Also people could still come around with a knife and kill you and not a gun. Also if our government was democrat and republican they would be arguing about everything and they wouldn't get anything done.

I love your idea of your " perfect world". I like the first sentance that you started with about saying how everyone would have a home an that every one would be safe. And i also liked how you said that that no one will have guns unless you were in the army, but some people have really dangerouse jobs and they might require a gun.

cMy perfect world is where nobody fights over the simplest of things such as property, Sport teams, or anoyance. This would be a problem because there is always that one person who would obgect and ruin that perfect world. And if you where that person, well you would be in alot of trouble and you would have spread something bad that would destroy that perfect world. Another thing is that we are human and we need to say our feelings about the things that bother us so we don't keep it all cramped inside of us.It would be nice for this to happen, but we wouldn't be able to think straight and our thinking wouldn't be always in our favor.

In today's world we are smart enough to know there can't be a perfect world. If there was one and I was the one who created it, it wouldn't be much different from the way we live right now. I would still have the same laws and basics as the United States, but I would have more advanced technology. For example I would want time travel to be invented. Now with this comes great risk like people wanting to change the past to their desire. To contour people like this we would have a agency to keep watch on time and be unaffected be changes so they can fix the problem. What we would use this for is to learn more about our past and our future.

Many things in our country and world could be changed to make them better. One big topic is education. I believe we should make education, including college, free. This could be a good thing because everyone could reach their potential and money wouldn't hold anyone back from doing what they would want to do. Also, if our world were more educated, we may be able to discover things quicker. These changes may have a negative effect, including that schools may become over populated and classes would become too large. We would be able to fix this by constructing new buildings, but that could also have a negative effect because it may cost too much to build these new schools. People may also waste their time and not think school was as important because it was free. Another big topic is laws. I think that as a world, everyone should be able to have freedom of speech. Unlike the US, many countries do not have freedom of speech. Changing this so everyone had it could be a good thing because everyone would be able to express their own opinion and we may be able to come up with new ideas. Though it would work out in that instance, instead of saying all helpful things, some people may take advantage of their freedom and say hurtful and unhelpful things. Overall, I think these changes could help the world after all, though there may be some negative impacts. If everything went smoothly and we were all perfect, life wouldn't be exiting or interesting, so I think after a couple changes, the world will be as good as it can get.

If I had a perfect world, I still don’t think it would be perfect. My perfect world would have a democracy, just like America’s. However the way things are run would need to be updated every decade or so. There would not be a “common citizen” and everyone would be different. The education system would change a lot. Rather than using the common core, schools would use a unique education where the kids had a say in what they were to learn about. The laws would be simple and everyone would know about them. In my perfect world, drugs, alcohol, and tobacco products would not exist, because they take away from the community.

I like your ideas, but there are some things that I don't think would be able to work. If kids chose what they learned they could have a better time in school but they could choose not to learn about key subjects like math or English. If drugs didn't exist, then nobody would be able to use them for medical purposes. If you think about it, we need drugs (excluding meth, heroin, etc.). We need them to keep us healthy and safe. People would always abuse them no matter what, but we we would still need them for the good things. Morphine, for example, takes away extreme pain. People abuse it, but we still need it to keep people comfortable. I agree with the alcohol thing, there is really no good it does. It causes liver damage and destructive behavior. I agree that tobacco needs to be gone because again, it does nothing but harm. It pollutes the planet, causes cancer and other health issues, and you don't even have to be a smoker to become ill from it. Overall, I think your blog post makes sense and its really good.

My perfect world would be peaceful, without war, hunger or poverty. Everyone would have education at a good school, and all education would be free. No disease or sickness, and everyone is happy. Citizens would be kind to one another. Laws would be the same. Women would have rights in every country in the world. There would be no child labor in the world. There would be all children and dogs adopted. Only happy news channels, too:-) One problem though... if there are no problems in the world how would people be? Problems make us stronger. It is in human nature to fight with people and express our opions. The world might be boring if there were no problems. So, is my 'perfect world' really perfect? Is there such thing as a perfect world? Or is that fantasy?

My perfect world would have many improvements on our world currently. First I would have improvements on school such as more customized education for kids but still have them go to a school so they still learn important social skills. I would have the government as a democracy where people would choose leaders who wouldn’t have too much power and have the people create laws. I would still have laws that make sense and have punishment for them such as jail and prison time for serious crimes such as murder and assault of any kind. I would just have fines for small crime like petty theft, and speeding.

My perfect world would be everyone gets the same level of education no matter how much money you have or what your living situations are. College would be free because many people can't afford it. I think that every child deserves an education no matter what. School would be the same for everyone no matter the financial situation. No matter where you lived, for example if someone lived in Jamesvile or the inner city of Syracuse they would get the same level of education and the same type of school. The negative of this is that the children with less resources at home would struggle with confidence because they might not have as many resources as some other kids.

My perfect world would be a world with no violence, no poor people, and no pollution to the environment. No violence would help the Earth because without violence there will be no need for wars and we can concentrate on other things. No poor people would help the Earth because no one would be homeless and everyone could live a good life. Finally no pollution would help us because then the Earth would last longer and we wouldn't have to worry about things like global warming. Also the perfect world would have would have changes in technology like hovering cars and small pocket phones and computers that grow into the regular size. These advances in technology would help the society because the cars wouldn't need to use oil and won't pollute the Earth. Also you can easily carry your phone and computer in your pocket. Some flaws in my perfect world are if everyone is good and not violent after a while we might not know what good is. Another flaw is that if everyone is rich everyone will become greedy. Finally if we have pocket computers and phones people can easily lose or forget their phones somewhere which will make the people mad that they have to pay extra money.

In a flawless society, the government would have the same checks and balances except instead of one president there would be a group of leaders, an oligarchy. Although this would cause even more controversy on who should be one of the leaders. Also, a ruler or lawmaker in office could be reelected as much as they want. Education would start later in the morning and end earlier in the afternoon but more homework would be assessed to ensure that students understood the concepts of their schoolwork more. This, though could lead to kids doing less homework and teachers would be paid less for less time at school. In the government or at school, nothing could ever be completely flawless.

But I think that it's a great idea to have a cure for cancer but what about the zika virus and other diseases. I also agree that phones will never die but that means that people will get addicted to technology because phones will never die and then people will lose their humanity just like in the wretched stone when the crew lost their humanity when they stared at that peculiar rock and turned into chimps.

My perfect world would be a world where there is no currency so everything is free. So there would be no more poverty or hunger, and all the countries would get along. The education system would have these helmets that would come down from the ceiling and insert the knowledge for the day, all the other special classes like P.E, music, art, etc. would still have a teacher and be 40 minutes long. So every school day would only be about 3 hours long. The problem with this though is the world would run out of resources and would have to find away to get more resources from another planet.

There would be no guns, drugs, or anything violent. All of the countries would get along there would be no wars. No one will be living in poverty and be homeless or hungry. We will still have school so people can grow up and have great jobs and be able to raise a family. In school there will be technology but not enough to make the children addicted and not realize the real world when they see it. You say there will be no violence and people will still have opinions, but if something happens that someone doesn't agree with, what would you think they would do. Would they hurt someone, or protest. If they protest it could escalate into a fight. You can't control peoples actions. Or do you mean know war. Also arguing is considered a fight but with words. It's what people do when they're mad at one another.

I also agree that schools should have some technology but not enough to get kids addicted. If schooling included all technology all the time, kids would almost lose their humanity and get too addicted, they wouldn't know what life was really about. I also agree completely when you wrote that if we happened to do something wrong, we would learn from our mistakes, because no one is or will ever be perfect, and we wouldn't be able to learn if we didn't make mistakes. I would also have our country become friends with other countries so terrorism wouldn't be so much of a problem. All weapons will be aken away unless someone has important documents to claim them. The only officers chosen will be people who are great leaders who know how to take care of a problem which will be rare in my world. Everyone will be happy and if someone id sad or angry people will know to cheer them up. In my perfect world, there would be no perfection. All are unique, and that is what makes them perfect. Education would be advanced. This would happen by decreasing the cost to get into college. This would increase the level of education in students and would therefore increase the level of education throughout the entire world. Also, a big issue is that countries outside of the US do not have the priveledge to speak freely. That right would help govornments and society know what the people wish to change. Also, Democracy is a great concept, but the whole idea of a presidential race is not the best decision. An assembly such as the electoral college chosing a ruler is a good idea, but debates and campaign trails stir up needless excitation and unlawful actions in the public.

In my perfect world a lot would be changed. It might be a unrealistic thought but all the countries in the world would exist in peace, no wars or conflicts between countries. For government each country would still have their own but their would be a kind of world council where every year a group of representatives from every country would meet together and discuss how the countries are doing just to make sure peace is always achieved. The education system would also be different. Students would have a choice of they wanted to learn or not. They would learn the basics like how to read right and basic math then you would have the choice to continue or not. Most people would stop but then after they see all the things you can do with more knowledge people would want to learn and it wouldn't feel like a punishment to go to school. If you decide to go to school you can choose to learn what interests you so you can be the smartest in your job field and that way every job would be done in the best way possible. Mostly everything else would stay the same other than those things. Americans would still live like they do now and everything would still be normal.

First, in my world no one would be discriminated against, rather than being discriminated against. Your differences would be loved. Secondly, nobody would be over-looked or hated. All of the social classes would be treated equal. No matter if you are rich or poor, it would not matter. All in all, prices of needs such as food, clothes, and toiletries would be at a affordable cost. Honestly, we have our perfect world right here. I wouldn't want to change anything about it. Why? Well, without diseases we wouldn't find cures and get smarter with technology. Without crimes, we wouldn't push ourselves to try and make the world a better place. Without problems, we could never find the answer. With people agreeing with everything, we wouldn't have a opinion. Without arguments we wouldn't educate ourselves. Without revolutions or wars we wouldn't strive to win. If everyone was happy, we wouldn't have any feeling. Without people dying we wouldn't have sadness. And when people overlook other people, that's when we confront. If we didn't hate or overlook, then how would our society work? We need everything in this world. Good or bad. We need arguments, problems, diseases, and many more we would not have as much as an advantage to become smarter. This is my perfect world. Nothing can change that.

I think we have a perfect world just how are world is today. Some of the things i would change would be to make a movement to get the majority of people out of poverty. Many people today live in poverty today and i think it would be better for the world to get those people out of poverty. I would also try to make most people atleast get a basic education. I think that when people have an education everything just flows better. People would get along better and would be able to have educated talks. Overall that's what i think a perfect world looks like education and people living out of poverty.

My perfect world would be peaceful and full of nature. There would be no global warming and there would be no poachers. Animals would go extinct naturally, and hunting for anything other than food would be illegal. The government wouldn’t just focus on the rich and fortunate. Everyone would have a chance to go to college and to get a job. Colleges would be more affordable and kids in school would take classes for a certain career they want as well as the basic classes. There would be more animal shelters and no more animal mills for breeding and selling animals. People could still eat meat but every animal that gets eaten would be killed in a humane way and they must be treated well when they are alive. Things wouldn’t be as expensive and people would still have to work for their things and money. Cars would run on environmentally friendly fuel. There would be more gardens and raw foods like vegetables and meat would be very cheap so just about everyone could easily afford it. More people would adopt and help animals in need. There would be an abundance of water and plants. People would also get along. Humans and animals would live in harmony, and there would be less pollution. People would do whatever makes them happy and there would be no discrimination.
