The book I read this past week is called Pet and it is a fantasy novel by Akwaeke Emezi. The protagonist is a young girl named Jam who lives in a town named Lucille. Lucille is a town that used to have monsters, but is now a very safe place to live...so people think. One night, Jam goes to look at her mother's painting of a monster. She touches the painting and is cut. Her blood brings the monster alive. Its name is Pet and it's here to actually hunt a real life monster. This is confusing because Lucille is supposed to be safe. Even more confusing, this supposed real life monster is believed to be at Jam's friend Redemption's house. This is strange because Redemption seems very happy. Read more to find out who the actual monster is and how Jam helps Pet find it. Although I enjoyed the mystery of finding out who the monster is, I did not enjoy the very dark nature of this book. It has a tragic ending.

I am reading the suspense novel The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson. Rory is from Louisiana, and is spending a semester at the prestigious Wexford Academy in London. However, the day she arrives, someone begins recreating the Jack the Ripper murders, and Rippermania quickly sweeps through London. With the murders getting closer and closer to Wexford, Rory begins to suspect that this murderer is different from any other: he’s a ghost. Rory also has to balance fitting in at a new school, with a supportive roommate, pompous prefects, and a athletics-enthusiast headmistress. This book is very well written and has drama, mystery, romance, realistic fiction, and even a bit of horror. I would recommend it to almost everyone.

The book I'm reading is memoir written by Dean Karnazes, called the ultramarathon man. The protagonist in the book is a man named Dean Karnazes, who lives in Santa Barbara California. The setting is on the eastern coast of America and in Antarctica. The important characters in this book are his wife, two children, mom and dad, and a few runners that inspired him to do his first ultramarathon. The conflict is that he wants to do something with his life and not be fat and lazy. I like this book because it is an awesome book about struggles in one person's life and how he changes that.

The book I have been reading this past week is a realistic fiction novel called 12 Before 13 by Lisa Greenwald. The protagonist is a twelve year old girl named Arianna (Ari) who is at camp with a friend she met named Lamey. Ari’s best friend kaylan is back home. Ari and Kaylan make a list every year, and this year they have to make a list of the 12 things that they have to accomplish by their 13th birthdays. They made a list last year of 11 things they had to do before they turned 12. They completed everything on the list! They start the list in the summer and have to finish it by their birthdays (November 1st and November 2nd). There is just one problem, Ari feels torn between Kaylan and her camp friends. Ari also feels like kaylan is getting to mature for her. I really like this book so far because it is so realistic and they are in the same age range as me so I can really connect to this book! I have also read the book 11 Before 12 so I think I will really like this book.

The book I read in the past week is the realistic fiction novel It Wasn’t Me by Dana Alison Levy. Seventh-grader Theo’s self-portraits are vandalized in the student gallery. Teacher Ms. Lewiston calls Theo and the bystanders of the incident—as Theo narrates “the Over-achiever, the Jock, the Nerd, the Weirdo, and the Screw-up”—to a five-day “Justice Circle” during school vacation. I personally liked this book because it was an enjoyable and funny mystery to find out who did it. If you enjoy mysteries or the breakfast club then I very much recommend this novel.

Far From The Tree by Robin Benway is a fiction novel. There are three protagonists of the story, Grace, Maya, and Joaquin. This book changes setting quite often throughout the story because all of the characters live in different places and travel to other places. So far, some of the other important characters in the book are “Peach” Graces daughter that she is putting up for adoption, and all of the characters parents. There are many conflicts in the book so far, each protagonist has their own main conflict. Grace is a teen mom who is going through the struggles of putting her new baby up for adoption, Maya is LGBTQ and is having trouble finding her place in the world, and Joaquin is an orphan who has been going through foster parents his whole life. All three of them are adopted (except for Joaquin) and they figure out that all three of them are siblings. So far I really enjoy this book because you can really feel for all of the characters and you can always tell what they are going through.

Right now I am reading Scar Island, an adventure book by Dan Gemeinhart. The protagonist is a twelve year old named Jonathan Grisby. It takes place at "Slabhenge Reformatory School", an old prison in the middle of the ocean where Jonathan was sent after committing a mysterious crime. Joined by the other boys at the school, they must find a way to live independently after the adults all "disappear". Although I'm just starting this book, I enjoy it because it keeps you reading by not explaining the story behind Jonathan's inprisonment. Also, there are a ton of characters but they all manage to seem interesting and likable. Maybe that's because they have secrets of their own too.
